Step 1: FAMILY INFORMATION MEETINGS

BOTH student and parent or guardian must attend one of the family information meetings in order to receive an application packet. Dates and locations are listed below. Step 2: COMPLETE APPLICATION MATERIALS

SCHOOL RECORDS CHECKLIST Look for the purple sheet in the packet and take it to your school. It is the responsibility of the parents or legal guardian to get your student’s school records and all other application materials to the Kauffman Scholars Office by 5:00 p.m. on Friday, April 15, 2011! Please refer to the guidelines on the purple School Records Checklist to assist you in obtaining the correct records.

The Family Educational Rights and Privacy Action (FERPA) of 1974 provides parents with the right to access their student’s educational records. Procedures regarding access to these records may vary from school to school. You should contact your child’s school to find out how to get a copy of these records. There may or may not be a charge to copy these records for you.

PERSONAL RECOMMENDATIONS Select two adults, who are not related to you, to complete the Personal Recommendations. Give the Personal Recommendation forms to the selected adults as soon as possible. The completed Personal Recommendation forms must be included with your application packet materials.

STUDENT AND PARENT/GUARDIAN APPLICATION Student Application - must be completed and signed by Student AND Parent. Parent/Guardian Application - must be completed and signed by Parent.

It is the responsibility of the parents or legal guardian to get all of the application materials, completed and signed, to the Kauffman Scholars Office by 5:00 p.m. on Friday, April 15, 2011!

Step 3: SUBMIT APPLICATION MATERIALS

Parents and student must complete and return their application packet to Kauffman Scholars, Inc. by 5:00pm on Friday, April 15, 2011.

ALL the requested information and signatures must be included in the packet when it is returned to the Kauffman Scholars Office, 4801 Rockhill Rd, Kansas City, MO, or the application will NOT be reviewed. All personal recommendations must be received by the final application date.

A complete Application for Admission includes the following items: Student Application, Parent Application, School Records AND both Personal Recommendations.

Date: Applications must be received no later than 5:00pm, Friday, April 15, 2011.

STEP 4 NOTIFICATION OF APPLICATION RECEIVED

Kauffman Scholars committee reviews applications and selects students who are eligible to move to the next step.

Students who meet eligibility criteria and have completed applications on time will be notified via mail of their eligibility to move to the next step.

Step 5: DIAGNOSTIC ASSESSMENT

Diagnostic Assessments are scheduled for Saturday, May 14, 2011 in two locations: Donnelly College (608 N 18th St., KCKS) and Kansas City Middle School of the Arts (4848 Woodland Ave, KCMO).

If your child is invited to continue in the application process, you will be notified of the time and location of your student's Diagnostic Assessment.

Step 6: FAMILY INTERVIEWS

Each student who completes the Diagnostic Assessment, and his or her Parent(s)/Legal Guardian(s) will be invited to schedule a Family Interview. Family Interviews will be held May - June 2011 at Donnelly College and Kansas City Middle School of the Arts.

Both the student and parent/guardian must participate in the interview process to be considered for admission to the Kauffman Scholars program.

Step 7: SELECTION OF SCHOLARS

After interviews, the Admissions Committee conducts a final review of all applications and selects Scholars for Class 8. All students will be notified of final selection results by mail in mid-July, 2011

Step 8: NOTIFICATION LETTERS

Notification letters for Class 8 are sent to students selected to become Kauffman Scholars. Students selected as Kauffman Scholars will be expected to attend the following sessions (Steps 9 & 10).

Step 9: FAMILY ORIENTATION MEETING

Students and their parent/guardian must attend one Kauffman Scholars Orientation Session in July, 2011.

Step 10: CLASS 8 INDUCTION CEREMONY

The induction ceremony formally welcomes new Scholars into the Kauffman Scholars program on August 13, 2011.
