Step 2: COMPLETE APPLICATION MATERIALS
School Records Checklist
Look for the yellow sheet in the packet and take it to your school. It is the responsibility of the parents or legal guardian to get your child's school records and all other application materials to the Kauffman Scholars Office by 5:00 p.m. on Friday, April 16, 2010! Please refer to the guidelines on the yellow School Records Checklist to assist you in obtaining the correct records.
The Family Educational Rights and Privacy Action (FERPA) of 1974 provides parents with the right to access their student's educational records. Procedures regarding access to these records may vary from school to school. You should contact your child's school to find out how to get a copy of these records. There may or may not be a charge to copy these records for you.
Personal Recommendations
Select two adults to complete the Personal Recommendations. Give the Personal Recommendation Forms to the selected adults as soon as possible to make sure they have enough time to complete them before the due date. Parents, guardians or family members cannot complete the Personal Recommendations.
Student Questionnaire and Parent Questionnaire
Child must complete and sign the Application for Admission: Student Questionnaire.Parent must complete and sign the Application for Admission: Parent Questionnaire.
It is the responsibility of the parents or legal guardian to get all of the application materials, complete and signed, to the Kauffman Scholars, Inc. Office by 5:00 p.m. on Friday, April 16, 2010.

Step 3: SUBMIT APPLICATION MATERIALS
Parents and student must complete and return their application packet to Kauffman Scholars, Inc. by 5:00 p.m. on Friday, April 16, 2010.
ALL the requested information and signatures must be included in the packet when it is returned to the Kauffman Scholars Office, 4801 Rockhill Road, Kansas City, MO, or the application will NOT be reviewed. All personal recommendations must be received by the final application date.
A complete Application for Admissions includes the following items:
Student Questionnaire – completed and signed by Student and Parent/Guardian.
Parent Questionnaire – completed and signed by Parent/Guardian
School Records (must include first semester sixth-grade grades; first semester attendance, and first semester discipline records – or letter stating there is no discipline record.
Make sure to follow up with the two adults who are providing Personal Recommendations, to remind them of the deadline to return the recommendations.
DATE: Applications must be received no later than 5:00 p.m. on Friday, April 16, 2010.
WILL BE ACCEPTED AFTER THIS DATE
Step 4: NOTIFICATION OF APPLICATION RECEIVED
Kauffman Scholars committee reviews applications and selects students who are eligible to move to next step.
Students who meet eligibility criteria and have completed applications on time will be notified via mail of their eligibility to move to the next step.

Step 5: DIAGNOSTIC ASSESSMENT
Diagnostic Assessments are scheduled for Saturday, May 8, 2010 in two locations, Kansas City, Kansas Community College and Penn Valley Community College. The session time is 9:00 a.m. - 2:00 p.m.
If your child is invited to continue in the application process, you will be notified of the time and location of your child's Diagnostic Assessment.
Step 6: FAMILY INTERVIEWS
Each student who completes the diagnostic assessment, and his or her Parent(s)/Legal Guardian(s) will be invited to schedule a family interview. Family Interviews will be held May 24 - June 3, 2010 at Donnelly College and Westport High School.
Both the student and the parent/guardian must participate in the interview process to be considered for admission to the Kauffman Scholars program

Step 7: KAUFFMAN SCHOLARS COMMITTEE SELECTS SCHOLARS FOR CLASS 7
After interviews, the Admissions Committee conducts a final review of all applications and selects Scholars for Class 7. All students will be notified of final selection results by mail in mid-July, 2010.

Step 8: NOTIFICATION LETTERS
Notification letters for Class 7 are sent to students selected to become Kauffman Scholars.
Students selected as Kauffman Scholars will be expected to attend the following sessions (Steps 8 & 9):
Step 9: FAMILY ORIENTATION MEETINGS
Students and their parents must attend one Kauffman Scholars Orientation Session on Saturday, July 24 or Tuesday, July 27, 2010.
Step 10: CLASS 7 INDUCTION CEREMONY
The Induction Ceremony formally welcomes new Scholars into the Kauffman Scholars program on August 14, 2010.
