TITLE: TUTOR
DATE: July 27, 2010
Kauffman Scholars is currently seeking individuals for its School Based Tutoring Program. These individuals will tutor our 9th through 12th grade scholars for the 2010-11 academic year at a local KCMO or KCK USD 500 high school for up to 10 hours per week. Scholars will be tutored in a wide range of subjects, but with the main focus on the core disciplines of Math, Science, Civics, Language Arts and Foreign Language.
Hours of Operation
Summer 2010: Tuesday and Thursday 8:30am-12:30pm beginning July 14th - July 30th
School Year 2010-11: Monday through Thursday 2:30-5:30pm beginning August 30th
Pay
The position pays $15/hour.
Position Requirements
- Some college experience (at least 60 hours)
- Set weekly schedule for entire semester
- Dependability and promptness are required
- Reliable transportation is essential
- Assist students in achieving a better understanding of specific subject material and in improving academic capabilities in designated areas
- Be responsible for maintaining records on each student who is being tutored
- Establish and maintain rapport with the assigned student(s)
- Attend periodic training sessions to increase competency in working with students
- Serve as a role model for students being served
- Help students develop positive attitudes and a high level of motivation toward learning and studying
- Help students develop self-confidence, raise self-efficacy, and reduce anxiety or fear of failure in academic work
- Help students develop the study skills necessary for academic success
Tutors must attend an orientation session and on-going training sessions. All tutors must successfully complete a background screening.
